I'm so excited to be able to share our new 'English Garden' collection with you! There are seven new compact mirrors designed from my original paintings. I’ve chosen timeless garden motifs like pretty butterflies, lavender flowers and waterlilies. Here you can see one of my favourites - my 'Lavender Butterfly' compact mirror!
We've made the English Garden compact mirrors with fine art prints of my paintings, hand-set under tempered-glass domes. Each painting is reproduced with care to show brushstrokes and texture in the paint. The glass dome makes the compact feel wonderfully tactile and just the right weight! And I love the cool, pebble-like feel in my hand. It reminds me of the gorgeous vintage compacts from 1950's manufacturer KIGU...
Here you can see my painting for Lavender Butterfly as it took shape. I work in traditional oil paints while using brushes made for nail art and cosmetics. Hence the pretty pink brush handle you can see here! I find the contrast between the 'high art' oil paint and my nail art brushes so joyful. I hope you'll see how much I enjoyed painting these designs in my work!
The butterfly I'm painting here is a Holly Blue, a favourite garden butterfly in the UK and USA, and one of the first to emerge in early spring. A flash of blue on a bright, clear morning!
Blue butterflies like the Holly Blue symbolise joy, while lavender means grace in the language of flowers. My mother suggested that I paint lavender after seeing my early swallowtail butterfly design. So I'm especially glad that this design has turned out so beautifully on the new mirrors!
... And you can follow my latest paintings for our Christmas collection over on my Instagram page! (Hint - I'm enjoying painting fur and wagging tails!) I hope they'll make you smile!
