This week's To Do list is all about me, me, me. Specifically getting me, well, my website, noticed. I sit brandishing a list of local journalists and magazines researched over a happy couple of hours, and stare on and off at a word document entitled "press release".
In my job-life pre-William I used to write one of these once a month. Big old brainstorm around the office about what was new, then big old cups of tea over an afternoon following a standard template to get the word out. Few revisions with a red pen and my boss, then out to Bill and Lars at some cosy industry magazines. They liked to think of themselves as mean old journalists, but really they just liked phones. And we did stuff with phones.
Now, there aren't any magazines about the powder compact industry and neither I nor my customers would read them if there were. Instead, I'm swimming with that very big, very scary fish called Fashion. Grazia, Vogue, Red, Elle, Woman and Home... the list is daunting, and let's face it, a tiny bit out of my current reach. I *could* send them a hello, but I know I'd be checking an empty email account every five minutes for the next six months. Crying silently.
So, the plan is to start local. To say, look, there's good stuff happening in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and it doesn't cost much to start, and there's a picture of a cute baby if you want it. It might work, and I've nothing to lose.... and my Grandma would absolutely love to see me in The Clitheroe Advertiser.
