As you'll know if you've followed this blog for a while, I've had some difficulty with supplies of Stratton powder compacts. I can now reveal that on 1st July Stratton was sold to Widdop Bingham, a UK giftware wholesaler.
A wholesaler like Widdop Bingham is likely to have bought the Stratton name for use on a range of accessories. Depending on their own strategy, they may choose to scale back, or end, powder compact production. You can read about the turbulent history of Stratton, Britain's last remaining powder compact brand here. It may be that we see 2013 as the year that Stratton powder compacts finally go out of production.
As my main supplier, this puts real strain on the future of Vanroe. Although beautiful, my range of compacts by Vicci is rather too limited to sustain a specialist powder compact store! I've one or two ideas of what I might do after July, and I'll keep you informed!
If you are a compact collector, I would recommend selecting one or two current Stratton designs for your collection. They will be some of the last produced under the current ownership by Faze Two Manufacturing Ltd. And, depending on the new buyer's intentions, may be the last manufactured under the Stratton brand. In the short term I will continue to sell the inventory I have, mainly via my Amazon store.
Fingers crossed for the future of Stratton, a great vintage British brand.
